Welcome to Year 2

What a busy half term we’ve had! Here are a few of the things we have been learning:

In Literacy, we have been reading and writing Traditional Tales such as Sleeping Beauty and The Enormous Turnip. After that we learned how to write Explanation texts. To help us write an explanation, we used what we learned in our Science topic about how plants grow. We all grew some cress seeds and watched the various stages of germination and growth.

In Maths, we have been mainly working on 2 digit numbers and now know how to partition them, double them and order them.

Our topic has been The Great Fire of London. The children made an amazing display of the burning houses – it looks fantastic!

Last, but not least is our new Reading Area. Year Two are so proud of it and it is a lovely, cosy place to enjoy a good read. Of course there are three extra characters always to be found there and frequently cuddled – Mog the Forgetful Cat; Hairy McClary from Donaldson’s Dairy and Winnie the Pooh. The children (and Miss Garbach) all played a massive part in making the Reading Corner so beautiful. Every child made a butterfly or two and a coloured a picture of themselves reading. I am really proud of them all.

Let’s look forward to the new learning and fun the next half term brings!
