Love of reading
Our Library
We believe that everyone needs a inviting, happy space to enjoy a book. This year we have spent lots of time working on our library. We have given it a complete revamp! It has been painted, redecorated and completely changed ready for the children to enjoy. Our library is no jungle themed. Our Key Stage 2 reading books are kept in the library along with lots of other exciting books.
Classroom reading corners
At St Pius X we believe that each classroom should have a dedicated space for reading. Each year during transition week the children create or make something to be displayed in their new reading space. This space is an inviting, exciting space where the children enjoy spending time, reading for pleasure.
Each year there is a competition between the classrooms. This involves someone external coming to judge the reading corner in each classroom and a winner being chosen! I wonder who will win this year?
Reader of the week
To promote the love of reading and motivate children to read outside of school we have a weekly reader of the week. Each class chooses a reader of the week weekly. This can be the child who has read the most at home or it could be someone who has shown improvement in their reading. Reader of the week is announced weekly in assembly and the winner in each class receives a prize.
