Reception

Autumn 2023

The children in Reception have been busy learning about growing up. We learned how over the years we change from a baby to elderly (Mr Thompson isn't elderly however he is enjoying being retired and was a good sport for voluteering!) The children did a a great job putting everyone in the right place!

Spring 2023

This half term, Reception have been learning all about different animals. We have looked at what different animals look like and where they come from. We used lots of different resources to make animals but one of our favourites was making animals using playdough!

Once we got to know the names of different animals we then had to decide if we thought those animals would be best in a zoo or on our farm. We used building blocks to create our own zoo to make sure the animals couldn’t escape. When we were learning about farm animals, we used our scissor skills to make sure the farm animals were in the right home on the farm.

We finished off our unit by looking at what materials we could get from animals on a farm. We learnt that wool comes from sheep and made some sheep from cotton wool. We have really enjoyed this topic!

Autumn 2022

During the autumn term, Reception went for a walk to How Tun woods to look for signs of Autumn. We used different liquids and materials to explore and make potions before our trip to watch Room on the Broom. We also investigated melting when we made cakes and watched how the chocolate melted.
