VIPERS (Reading Lessons)

At St Pius X we teach five whole class reading lessons per week. We focus on Reading Vipers questions in three of these sessions. Each class follows the VIPERS format, which allows children to develop their knowledge and understanding of:

Vocabulary 

Inference

Predicting

Explanations 

Retrieval 

Summarizing 

The children also have one reading session per week in the school library, completing reading activities or reading for pleasure independently or in pairs, and they enjoy one extended reading for pleasure session, where the class teacher reads to the class.
