Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to St Pius X Catholic Primary School & Little Lambs Nursery.

It is a privilege to serve as Headteacher of our wonderful school. Since joining St Pius X in September 2017, I have had the pleasure of working alongside an exceptional team of staff, governors, pupils, parents and our parish community, all of whom share the same ambition - to provide the very best Catholic education for every child entrusted to our care.

At St Pius X, our mission, 'Restore all things in Christ,' is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to nurture children academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally, ensuring they flourish in a happy, safe and caring environment where every individual is known, valued and loved.

We are incredibly proud of the warm family atmosphere that exists throughout our school. Relationships are at the centre of our success, and we believe that children learn best when they feel secure, supported and inspired. We work in close partnership with parents, recognising that education is most successful when school and home work together.

Inspections have recognised the strengths of our school and the progress we have made. The Catholic Schools Inspectorate judged St Pius X to be Outstanding in all areas, recognising the strength of our Catholic Life and Mission, Religious Education and Prayer & Liturgy. Inspectors recognised that our Catholic identity is lived out daily and is visible in every aspect of school life.

Similarly, our 2026 Ofsted inspection acknowledged the significant improvements made across the school. Inspectors recognised that "leaders have successfully resolved the weaknesses in the previous curriculum offer" and described our curriculum as "ambitious, interesting and relevant." They also highlighted that "leaders have created a place where everyone feels proud to be part of the school community."

Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, develop confidence and prepare children for the future. We have high expectations for every pupil and believe that every child can achieve success. Alongside high-quality teaching, we provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities including educational visits, music, sport, performing arts, STEM, outdoor learning and leadership opportunities. These experiences help children discover new talents, broaden their horizons and develop the confidence to make a positive contribution to society.

Pastoral care is one of our greatest strengths. Ofsted recognised that "leaders place pupils' personal development and wellbeing at the heart of their work," and praised the highly effective pastoral support available to our children and families. We know every child is unique, and we are committed to ensuring that all pupils feel safe, valued and supported throughout their journey with us.

As a Catholic school, faith is woven through every aspect of daily life. Gospel values underpin our curriculum, our relationships and our decision making. We seek to develop compassionate, respectful and resilient young people who understand their responsibility to care for others and to make a positive difference in the world.

Beyond the classroom, we offer an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities including book, netball, choir, dance, art and many other clubs throughout the year. We also provide Breakfast Club from 7.30am and After School Club until 5.30pm to support our families.

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. I warmly invite you to come and experience St Pius X for yourself. The best way to appreciate what makes our school so special is to visit us, meet our pupils and staff, and see our learning in action. You will always receive a warm welcome.

If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact our school office on 01229 828406 or email admin@st-piusx.cumbria.sch.uk.
