Sankey Project
In Spring 2019, our pupils participated in a local history project called Sankey, led by Signal Film and Media. Part of the project involved pupils in our Year 2 and Year 5 and the sessions were planned and led by two highly skillful and engaging teachers, Sue de Gruyther and Julie Tudson.
The National Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Seeing the North with Sankey’ , which is a two-year heritage project which will conserve and connect people across Barrow and Cumbria to the Sankey Photographic Collection.
THE SANKEYS were a father and son duo who documented life in Barrow and Cumbria over 80 years, capturing the landscape, cultural changes, individuals, industry & tourism (plus much more). The postcards they created from their photography were posted all over the world.
Our children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the project and some of their work can be seen in the video below. In addition, they learned a key aspect of local history and the importance of conservation.
